Dal Khichdi Risotto

Dal Khichdi risotto is a fusion khichdi recipe where we cooked rice and dal together as risotto style.

  • 1 Cup Arborio Rice
  • 1/2 Cup Whole Green Gram Sabut Moong Dal
  • 1/4 Cup Onion Finely Chopped
  • 2 Green Chilies Finely Chopped
  • 1 Tsp. Ginger Chopped
  • 1 Tsp. Garlic Chopped
  • 1 Tsp. Mustard Seeds
  • 1 Tsp. Cumin Seeds
  • Salt to Taste
  • 1/2 Tsp. Turmeric Powder
  • Few Curry Leaves
  • 3 Cups Vegetable Broth Optional
  • 2 Tbsps. Olive Oil
  • 2 Tbsps. Butter
  • 2 Tbsps. Coriander Chopped


  1. Wash and soaked the green gram in water overnight. Drain the excess water and keep aside. 

  2. Heat the butter and olive oil in a non-stick pan.

  3.  Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds when they start splutter. 

  4. Add ginger, garlic and green chilies and saute few seconds. 

  5. Add chopped onion and saute till to translucent. 

  6. Add rice and saute few seconds in ghee. 

  7. Add moong dal, salt, turmeric powder and mix well. 

  8. Add 3 Cups water or broth mix and cover with lid. Cook till to soft and mushy. 

  9. Add coriander leaves and mix well. Serve hot with papad and chutney.
